World Turned In
It's either "Lou Grant" or "Boob Man" - the steady, constant sound the breast pump makes as it quietly runs every two or three hours of my life at the moment.
This is our second full day at home. We stayed in the hospital until Monday night because Myles was having some trouble learning how to eat. He's small for his gestational age due to the IUGR (the condition that caused my labor to be induced - which ultimately saved his life) and he's playing catch-up now. But he's a fast learner.
Things are going well. Jeff is an amazing partner and fatherhood has come naturally to him. We are getting into a groove with sharing responsibilities and anticipating what needs to be done. Our world has shrunk to this incredible microcosm that is tiny and at the same time more vast than the universe.
Dealing with insomnia for pretty much my entire life has really prepared me for motherhood. I'm feeling good right now, just a little sore and a little addled from the hormones. I think the lack of sleep is much harder on Jeff than it is on me.
I'm pumping and bottle feeding breast milk supplemented with formula until Myles gets the hang of sucking and swallowing. It takes a whole lot longer to get through a feeding this way, but thus far everything is going well.
We went to see our pediatrician for a follow up this morning and for the first time, I filled in a box to indicate I was someone's mother. It was surreal. I'm the mother.
I'm the luckiest person on the planet.
Going from a couple to a family has been a long journey and now our feet are on a different path. We're moving forward though, a little at a time, figuring things out the way that everyone else before us has done.
No matter what happens, this is my family. I am humbled and awed and utterly amazed.

WOOOOOOO!!!

You have that happy, glazed look of new parents. And Myles looks like Jeff--all he needs is a little shell choker. : )
Does he have red hair?
Mr. A was 5 lbs. 2 oz. when he made his early arrival. I had to do the formula, nursing, and pumping routine as well, waiting for his sucking reflex to fully develop. The photos of your little "peanut" look so familiar to me.
It is interesting how your world both expands and contracts when you become a parent. It's an amazing experience.

He's adorable! He looks like he's going to be the perfect mixture of you and Jeff in the looks department. Glad to hear everything is going so well. Congrats again!

Oh. My. God. He is too gorgeous for words. And...I think he has Jeff's lower lip.

wow, wow, wow. He's gorgeous. this seems so surreal. My God you all are just glowing in these pictures.
If you ever want to chat or vent about pumping let me know. I had to pump exclusively with both kids so I've been there done that.
God bless you all.

Hooray! He's adorable, and you look so blissfully (tired and) happy. I laughed so hard I snorted when I read "Dealing with insomnia for pretty much my entire life has really prepared me for motherhood." So true.

Oh my gosh, he's sooooooo handsome!!!!!!! I wish I could say I knew who he looks like- but I guess it's best left for people who can tell that kind of thing. I can't figure out where his mound of dark brown hair is, though!??! I just KNEW he'd have that! I LOVE the pix- you have the look of bliss that only new parents can. I'm soo excited I can't stand it! I think of you guys every day and hope it continues to go well! Love, J

That photo of the two of you is beautiful.
My breast pump talked to me too. It either said "Wanna Bea Senator" Over and over again. or something about the Minnesota Twins.
I recall looking out the window (while attached to the milk machine)in the early days looking outside at the normal things that normal people were doing, and feeling like I would never be among them ever again. Trapped forever in the newborn haze!
Fortunately we do return to normal, or in my case, something resembling that.
You guys are truly blessed! If you think you are in love with him now, just wait. It only gets better.

I just can't over his features. Newborn babies usually look like pugs (but really really cute ones) - Myles is just darling.
