I Asked Her For Questions
Last week, Feral Mom was handing out interview questions to any and all comers. I couldn't refuse because Feral Mom writes the kind of posts that make me pee my pants then feel compelled to share the whole sordid tale with the internet, with lots of swearing and maybe pictures of my boobs.
So, without further adieu, I present: The Feral Interview
What do you look forward to most about motherhood?
With every day that passes, I'm adding more and more things to my list. (And it's getting surreal to think that I only have a few weeks left.) Right now, the most exciting thing I can think of is that Jeff and I are going to have this incredible opportunity to experience the world through our son's eyes. There are so many things we want to share with him - diving, boating, music, the natural world, the amazing experience of living in southwest Florida... I could go on and on.
Aside from that, I am most looking forward to the personal growth and change that motherhood will inevitably bring. I have no idea what to expect at this point and the idea that something big is about to happen is truly exciting and a little scary, but in a good way.
What is your favorite memory of your mother?
It's not really a specific memory of one event, more an amalgam of something that was a constant in my childhood and my experiences with her. My mother loved to sing and she had a good singing voice. We spent a lot of time in the car, commuting to school, church three times a week and traveling to visit family in far away places when my dad was out to sea. My mom would always sing while she was driving.
My earliest memories of being in the car with her include her singing to me, and later when I and my sisters were older, we would all sing together, all kinds of songs from funny camp tunes to hymns and lullabyes to popular folk music. She was an alto and she had a great ear for harmony. If I concentrate enough now, I can still hear her voice.
Do you have a best friend?
When I was younger and someone would address this question with the answer I'm about to give, I would always think it was incredibly lame. But Jeff is my best friend. He's the funniest, smartest, kindest person I know and I would rather hang out with him than anyone else I can think of. Being around him makes me happy.
That said, I do have some pretty amazing girlfriends in far away places. I've been missing them a lot since we moved to Florida. And this weekend I got to hang out with one of them. Hi Jules! By some crazy coincidence we got pregnant at the same time. Aside from my knocked up friends in the computer, I haven't really had much of a chance to be around anyone else who is pregnant. We had a blast talking about all the crazy stuff that happens to your body, comparing bellies and boobs and talking about impending motherhood.
What band or album (if any) do you fall in and out of love with?
In general, this phenomenon happens to me with bands that sound or perform better live than on their studio tracks. If I haven't seem them in person for awhile, I forget how much I love them. Some specific examples include My Morning Jacket, Dave Matthews and Keller Williams. I've also recently rediscovered how much I used to love Live. Mental Jewelry is really just an awesome, introspective album.
If you could relive any year of your life before you die, which one would it be?
Hands down, I would go back to 14 for one last hurrah. That was a really great year. I was just coming out of a heinous five year awkward spell. I was the same height I am now, but weighed about 95 pounds because I ran track. I was all arms and legs, so when I look back at photos of myself from that time, the word "coltish" comes to mind.
My mom wasn't sick yet, my dad was still on active duty in the military so he was gone six months out of the year and I was just beginning to come into my own. That was the summer of my first kiss, the year I finally convinced my mom to let me attend public school and a year before my first job. Yeah, I'd go back to 14 in a heartbeat.
Thanks so much for the interview, Feral Mom!

Good questions--and good answers. I most enjoyed hearing that you'd re-live age 14 again. I'm not sure what year I'd choose, though I keep telling E that right now is the BEST time of my life.

It's funny, when I was pregnant with Oliver I rediscovered all sorts of bands I'd forgotten I'd even listened to. I went through a very nostalgic period.
Great questions, and answers!

I would totally relive 14!
I'm going to be the annoying mom yelling, "ENJOY THIS! It is one of the best times of your life!"

Ooh what a nice interview. Are you sure it's her posts that make you pee your pants and not a combo of her posts and weak kegel muscles?

I'm still trying to digest the fact that you went to church three times a week!

Awesome. Thanks for such amazing answers! 14 is definitely wasted on the 14 year olds.
